Announcing a New Distance in 2023
5k (3.1 miles) has been added
We are pleased to announce the addition of a 5K (3.1 miles) division to accompany our 10K distance that has been the standard since our inception in 2005. We have added this shorter option based upon the numerous requests we have received over the years, thus providing an opportunity for greater family participation as well as for those who feel the shorter distance would be more accommodating. As always, participants will be able to walk for health and/or competition at either distance.
Unfortunately the half marathon division is discontinued. The costs to conduct a half marathon have become cost prohibitive as expenses associated with keeping the course open for the number of walkers participating is not justified, especially since the event is conducted by Healthy New Albany, a nonprofit organization. As is the case for many nonprofit organizations, Healthy New Albany must be diligent with its financial resources.
We are thankful to our event sponsors, especially our Presenting Sponsor, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center that funds the race expenses so that 100 percent of income raised through participant registrations and donations are allocated to Healthy New Albany to continue to provide valuable health services such as programming for older adults, community cooking classes and mental health initiatives.
We ask for your understanding as the decision to cancel the half marathon was extremely difficult. We do hope you will support us by participating in either the 5K or 10K distance.
