I registered but found out that I am unable to attend. Can I get a refund for the event?
No, all entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. There are no exceptions. If you are unable to make it to the event you are still invited to attend packet pick-up and receive this year's fantastic giveaways!
When and where is packet pick-up?
Packet pick-up will be held at Philip Heit Center for Healthy New Albany (150 W. Main St, New Albany, OH 43054), Friday, September 11, 2020 between 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm and Saturday, September 12, 2020 between 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.
Can I pick up my packet the morning of the Walking Classic?
No, there is no packet pick-up on race day. Packets are only available during packet pick-up. If you are unable to make it to packet pick-up, you are welcome to send a friend or family member to get your packet for you. Your valid photo ID (or a copy/picture) needs to be shown.
If I am not able to pick up my race packet during packet pick-up, can I get it after the race is over?
No, race packets are only available during the designated times of packet pick-up listed above. You are welcome to send a friend or family member to get your packet for you. All they need is your valid photo ID (or a copy/picture)!
Can my packet be mailed to me?
Yes, you have the option to choose to have your race garment and bib mailed to you when you register online. However, you must register by July 27, 2020 in order to have these items shipped to your address. There will be an additional cost for shipping and handling added to your registration. You will not need to come to packet pick-up if you choose this option.
Can I pick up someone else's race packet?
Yes! You must show a valid photo ID (or a copy/picture) for each person’s race packet that you are picking up.
If I am unable to participate in the Walking Classic after registering, can my race packet be mailed?
No, if you did not choose to have your items mailed to you during registration, race packets are only available during the designated packet pick-up times listed above. It is the responsibility of the participant to arrange to pick up his or her packet during the stated packet pick-up times.
Are strollers and pets permitted in the Walk?
No. Baby joggers, bicycles, scooters, strollers, roller skates and roller blades are not permitted in the Walking Classic. Pets are not permitted. Unofficial support bikers are also not permitted.
Is there entertainment along the course?
Yes, DJs and bands are stationed throughout the course!
Can I give my entry to a friend if I cannot participate?
No. Due to USA Track & Field (USATF) rules and regulations, each participant must register himself/herself and sign his/her own waiver. Anyone who participates with another person's bib number will be disqualified. For the safety of the participants it is imperative that the registration data associated with the race participant. If the race staff becomes aware that someone has participated in the event with a bib that is not registered to him or her, both the participant and the person to whom the bib is registered will be prohibited from participating.
Is there a time limit on the course?
Yes, you must maintain a 20 minute-per-mile pace while on the course. If you aren't able to maintain that pace, you will be given the opportunity to finish the event on the sidewalk so that the streets can re-open to traffic, or be given a ride back to the finish line.
Can children participate?
Yes! As long as they are able to walk the entire 10k (6.21 miles) course and maintain a 20 minute-per-mile pace.
What is the cancellation policy?
The Walking Classic in accordance with management staff, city officials and local law enforcement has the authority to cancel the event for emergency purposes such as, but not limited to, inclement weather or threat of terrorism. If such emergency conditions force cancellation, refunds will not be provided as a large portion of funds are spent in preparation for race day. Walking Classic staff will make every effort to inform participants as soon as possible in the event of a cancellation.
Can a non-participant cross the finish line with me?
No. We share in the joy of your accomplishment as you near the finish line; however, for your safety and the safety of fellow participants around you, any other person that has not registered for the Walking Classic is not permitted to cross or meet you at the finish line. They are welcome to meet you just outside finish line gates in Market Square!
Is this event certified?
Yes, the New Albany Walking Classic is certified by USA Track and Field (USATF) officials to an exact standard that guarantees the event distance is correct.
Do you have water and portable toilets on the course?
Yes, the water stops are first and then shortly afterwards will be the portable toilets around mile 1.5, mile 3.4 and mile 4.9.
