VIRTUAL WALKER REGISTRATION

Can’t Walk in Person?  Register as a Virtual Walker! This year we are implementing the opportunity to register as a virtual walker.  As a virtual walker, you can walk the 10k distance (6.21 miles) at a venue of your choice.  It can be in a park, on the streets in your neighborhood, on a treadmill or as a part of another race.  You are required to complete the 10k distance by Walking Classic day, September 15, 2019.  You can choose to walk your distance in segments.  For example, you might complete the distance on two separate days.  Although we cannot monitor whether you complete the 10k distance, we will rely on your honesty.  Most important, get out and move!  A shipping and handling fee to mail your garment will be added to your registration.  Those registering through a company or organization team that supplements the entry fee are not eligible to participate as a virtual walker.

There are many benefits to participating in the Walking Classic as a virtual walker.

  • Your race garment will be mailed to your home so you do not need to receive it at packet pick up.  You will receive your garment shortly after the Walking Classic.

  • One-hundred percent of your race fee will be donated to our 501(c)(3) nonprofit Healthy New Albany so you will be able to help our cause.

  • As a virtual walker, you will not be participating in the Walking Classic on race day in New Albany which means you will not worry about parking, crowds, weather, travel and bathroom stops, just to mention a few of the benefits.

In the spirit of transparency, there are some disadvantages to not participating in the Walking Classic in person.  Virtual walkers will not be present at our finish line celebration featuring great vendors and food, miss out on the excitement and camaraderie on race day and not be eligible to receive age group or overall awards.

Virtual participation will be limited to the first 300 to register in this category or until registration sells out.

NEW!!!  HAVE YOUR BIB AND GARMENT SHIPPED TO YOU

We want to make packet pick-up more convenient for our participants, especially those traveling from afar.  You can receive your race garment and race bib ahead of time by choosing to have it shipped to you.   To take advantage of this option, you must register by July 28, 2019.  Since this year’s garment will be bulkier and heavier than our previous garments, this service costs $30.  Due to shipping limitations, each garment must be individually shipped per entrant. OFFER EXPIRED JULY 28, 2019.

COMPETITOR DIVISION

As in previous years, we are offering a Competitor Division. Walkers who choose to sign up as a competitor will receive special bib numbers and be granted access toward the front of the starting line. To be considered a competitor, you are seeking to vie for an age-group or overall award and/or you will average under 13:30 per mile. Those who intend to walk a sub 13:30 average pace per mile are not required to sign up as a competitor.

Corrals: To reduce congestion on our beautiful course, corrals will be implemented again this year.

PACKET PICK UP: FACTS TO KNOW!

  • There is no packet pick-up on race day and packets will not be available after the Walk.

  • Packet pick-up dates and times are Friday, September 13 between noon and 7:00 pm and Saturday, September 14 between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm.

  • A valid drivers license (copies are accepted) must be presented to receive your packet.  If picking up for others, you must show a valid driver’s license (or a copy) for each person.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

  • The Walking Classic has a NO REFUND and no Bib transfer policy.

AWARDS + AGE GROUPS

Overall awards will be given to the top 3 women and men finishers. To be eligible for a top three award, judged racewalking rules will be applied. The two rules used in a judged racewalk are The Straight Knee Rule (the advancing leg must be straightened from the moment of first contact with the ground until in the vertical position) and The Contact Rule (the walker makes contact with the ground so that no visible loss of contact occurs).

The top three women and men in each of the following age groups will receive awards after the results are validated. This can take up to two months. The age groups are: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80 and above. Judged race walking rules will not be followed for age group awards. However, as a walking only event, anyone who runs, whether for a few steps or one minute will be disqualified.

Only those who sign up as a competitor will be eligible for an age group or overall award.

OUR 15TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL PERKS

Every participant will receive a very special garment.  A high quality sherpa pullover is this year’s give-away.  We’ve gone overboard to make our 15th anniversary Walk garment fashionable and practical.  You’ll be proud wear this!

Every participant will also receive a special 15th anniversary finisher's medal that can also be converted to a tabletop coaster!

ACCOMMODATIONS

The Courtyard by Marriott New Albany, just about one-mile from the starting line is our host hotel. The hotel will offer free shuttle service to and from the Walk to all registered guests.

In addition, Walking Classic participants will receive a special discounted room rate. Use this link to reserve your room now with special Walking Classic rate.  Rooms sell out early every year so don’t hesitate.
