Event Information
A half marathon distance (13.1 miles) has been added to the 2011 New Albany Walking Classic. This popular distance will serve to meet the needs of the many participants who have asked for an option to the 10k distance. Due to the length of time we can keep the course open, all participants in the half marathon will be required to maintain a pace no slower than 18 minutes per mile. At the 6-mile split for the 10k and half marathon, walkers who are slower than the 18 minute per mile pace will be guided to finish with the 10k walkers and not be permitted to continue the half marathon distance. An 18 minute per mile pacer will be walking along the course carrying signage so that walkers will know they cannot fall behind. After the 6-mile point, a sag bus will be following the 18-minute per mile pacer and slower walkers will be asked to board the bus and taken be taken back to the start/finish.

Awards & Age Groups
Overall awards will be given to the top 3 women and men finishers when they cross the finish line. To be eligible for a top three award, judged racewalking rules will be applied. The two rules used in a judged racewalk are The Straight Knee Rule (the advancing leg must be straightened from the moment of first contact with the ground until in the vertical position) and The Contact Rule (the walker makes contact with the ground so that no visible loss of contact occurs).
The top three women and men in each of the following age groups will receive awards after the results are validated. This can take up to one month. The age groups are: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80 and above. Judged racewalking rules will not be followed for age group awards. However, as a walking only event, anyone who runs, whether for a few steps or one minute will be disqualified.
Competitor Perks
All competitors will receive an event windbreaker and more. While every size request should hopefully be fulfilled, the possibility remains that certain sizes may not be in stock. Windbreakers will have unisex sizing.
Accommodations
A number of hotels at Easton Town Center, just a few miles from the Walk, offer a range of options for out of town participants.
